BIKING NEAR MONTE BALDO
DIRT ROAD ROUTE FROM POLSA TO MONTE VIGNOLA, SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES AND CHILDREN

Start from the Polsa campsite (altitude 1300m) and climb towards Monte Vignola (itinerary no. 1946) up to the large watershed built by the Austro-Hungarian army (altitude 1495m). From here you can choose to walk up to the top of Monte Vignola in about 15 minutes, to enjoy the wide panorama open to the entire horizon. You can extend the route by climbing further up to below the Colme di Vignola (altitude 1541m) and then enjoy a pleasant descent towards Bocca d’Ardole and then, passing by Malga Susine, you return to the starting point (itinerary no. 1948). Along the panoramic road you will encounter suggestive views and cross a wooden bridge that spans a deep gorge.

How to get there
From the A22 motorway, take the Rovereto Sud exit and follow the signs for the Brentonico plateau and from there for the locality of Polsa.
From Lake Garda, follow the signs for Mori (Rovereto, SS 40). From Morsi, go up along the SP3 of Monte Baldo for Brentonico and then continue towards Polsa.

TOUR OF MONTE BALDO

The itinerary allows you to cross a wide variety of environments: starting from the valley floor you reach the 1500 meters of the Corno della Paura from where, near the military posts, the view extends over the southern part of the Vallagarina, which opens towards the Veneto plain. Back in the saddle then to reach San Valentino, Bocca del Creer and from there gain another memorable panoramic point, a natural balcony overlooking Lake Garda: Bocca di Navene.
If you decide to return to these places in winter, to see them covered in snow, bring skis or snowshoes with you! On Monte Baldo in fact it is possible to practice cross-country skiing in Località San Giacomo and downhill on the slopes of Polsa and San Valentino, while those who do not ski will find various itineraries to follow with snowshoes.
You then descend into the valley reaching Avio and from there, passing at the foot of the famous castle, along the Via Claudia Augusta cycle path that runs along the Adige river, you return to Rovereto and the starting point.
Advice
Following this itinerary, Palazzo Eccheli Baisi, in the historic center of Brentonico and the Avio Castle, in Sabbionara, are worth a visit.

How to get there
From the Rovereto Nord or Roverero Sud exits of the A22, you reach the town of Borgo Sacco. There, taking the Ex Manifattura Tabacchi building as a reference, you reach the Leno stream, where you meet the small Zigherane bridge.

From the A22 Rovereto Sud – Lago di Garda Nord motorway exit, take the road to Mori. Shortly after the roundabout (about 1 km), take the exit on the right for Mori and then follow the signs for Brentonico – Passo S. Valentino. Once you reach the pass, go down towards Avio until you reach Prà da Stua (SP208) and from there, taking the right, go up to Passo della Cola and then to Malga Dossioli (SP230).

MADONNA DELLA NEVE MALGHE TOUR

A circular tour in the central part of the Monte Baldo mountain range
The circuit starts from the Madonna della Neve basin and climbs to the Malga Lavacchio meadows, where you can admire wide views of the Adige Valley and the Lessini Plateau. It then continues through a characteristic beech forest in the direction of the Cerbiolo Pass and then towards the Novezzina Refuge. It briefly climbs up to the Cavallo di Novezza pass and then descends towards the Acque Nere, Artiloncino, Trembarì malghe, up to the wide Dossioli esplanade. The return is now all downhill along the asphalt road to the starting point.

Classic climb from Bocca del Creer to the “Damiano Chiesa” refuge on Monte Altissimo
An unmissable climb along the military road built in 1915 towards one of the most spectacular panoramic points in the Alps. You follow a constant but moderate climb along the hairpin bends of the mule track that leads to the top of Monte Altissimo.
Hairpin bend after hairpin bend the view opens up more and more onto the surrounding panorama that from the Brentonico plateau, embraces the Lessinia and offers a spectacular view of Lake Garda. This route is much loved not only by bikers, but also by hikers who in summer, but also in winter – snowshoes on their feet – climb in large numbers to the refuge.
And who can blame them? The path is easy to follow and the gaze runs freely from the mountain to the lake! Along the way there are also numerous testimonies of the past and of the war that these areas were the scene of. Finally, it is not uncommon to admire birds of prey, chamois or marmots that are at home here.

BRENTONICO RING – 1940

A very satisfying ride through woods, mountain huts and splendid panoramas with the possibility of choosing between numerous variants.
From the centre of Brentonico the route reaches the village of Saccone on an asphalt road, crossing the pastures around the hamlets. From here the climb takes place on a dirt road, inside large beech forests up to the locality of Polsa. Continuing further the panorama opens onto the Adige valley, where the gaze can range from the wide panorama of the Lessini plateau to Verona. Along the route you will encounter numerous testimonies of the First World War, such as buildings, ruins, trenches, built in this area by both the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies. From S. Valentino the route descends towards S. Giacomo and from here passing above Malga Mortigola continues in the direction of Festa and then shortly returns to the starting point. Numerous variants branch off from the main route, allowing you to adapt the excursion in the most pleasant way for the guest.
Tip:
Many opportunities to stop in characteristic places (Malga Susine, Malga Costapelada, Malga Fos-ce, Malga Campo, Malga Campei) where typical dishes of the local tradition are presented, made with products obtained directly on site. Route also suitable for E-mtb

BRENTONICO RING – 1940
AVIO CLIMB – SAN VALENTINO
(DIFFICULT)
Uphill route that connects the town of Avio on the Lagarino valley floor to the San Valentino Pass, inside the Monte Baldo Local Natural Park, at 1314 meters above sea level.
The climb begins at the Pieve di Avio and for the first 2 km it alternates rather steep climbs with stretches on a slight slope. After the first hairpin bend the gradient becomes more regular for about 8 km (average 9% with peaks of 12%). At km 10 another steep climb of a few hundred meters that leads to the artificial lake of Prà della Stua. After a short very steep stretch you exit the narrow valley of the Aviana stream and begin the last 4 km of very easy climb (gradients 6 – 7%) that wind through the meadows used for grazing. After more than 15 km of climbing and 1150 m of altitude difference, you arrive at the San Valentino Pass where you can finally catch your breath.

How to get there:
From the A22 Ala – Avio exit, take the road towards Avio and then go up along the Strada del Monte Baldo (SP208). At the Pra da Stua crossroads, continue straight on the SP208. After 4 km of steep climbing, you will arrive at the San Valentino Pass, where you can finally catch your breath.
The descent can be done along the same route.
Alternatively, you can continue towards Brentonico along the SP3 and descend into the valley in the town of Chizzola. Before reaching the town of Brentonico, turn right towards Corné-Sorne-Chizzola; a technical descent will take you to Chizzola.
Where to park:
Possibility to park the car at the Avio cemetery, before starting the climb by bike.
